Candle Care & Cleaning Tips

Candle Care & Safety

Your first burn is the most important!
Allow the wax pool to reach all sides of the vessel to help prevent tunneling. Depending on the size of your candle, this may take 3–4 hours.

Trim your wicks before every burn!
Always keep your wicks trimmed to approximately ¼ inch. This helps maintain a clean, steady flame and promotes an even burn.

Keep it short & sweet!
Never burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time. For larger candles, if the wax pool has not yet reached the edges of the vessel, you may extend the burn time to 5–6 hours.

Surface matters!
Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant, non-flammable surface while burning.

Know when to stop!
Once approximately ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom of your vessel, it’s time to stop burning your candle. Continuing to burn past this point may cause the vessel to overheat.

Want to enjoy every last bit? Carefully remove the remaining wax and place it in a heat-safe container to enjoy under a candle warmer or lamp.

How to Clean Your Vessel

One of the best parts about a Salvage Bohemia candle is that your vintage vessel can be enjoyed long after the candle is gone.

Think ahead!
When approximately ½ inch of wax remains, it’s time to clean your vessel. Cleaning is easiest while the vessel and remaining wax are still slightly warm.

Extinguish your candle.
Rather than blowing out your candle, use a wick dipper or candle snuffer to safely extinguish the flame.

Prepare for the remaining wax.
Line a heat-safe bowl or container with foil or parchment paper. This allows the wax to harden for easy disposal or reuse.

Carefully pour out the remaining wax.
Once the flame is completely extinguished, carefully pour the warm wax into your prepared container. Always make sure the vessel is cool enough to safely handle.

Remove the wicks & wick tabs.
Using tweezers or a butter knife, gently remove the wicks and metal wick tabs from the bottom of the vessel. This is easiest while the vessel and adhesive are still slightly warm.

Wipe away any remaining wax.
Use a paper towel to wipe the inside of the vessel and remove any remaining wax or residue.

Give your vessel a final wash.
Allow the vessel to cool completely before washing. Once cool, gently clean it with warm water and mild dish soap.

And just like that, your vintage vessel is ready for its next chapter. ♡ Click here for a full tutorial.

Burn beautifully. Reuse thoughtfully. Be a Light.
